Not a whole lot happened today. The weather was clear and sunny, and would have been amazing if it was not for the wind. We started off on a good foot because we investigated the free breakfast thing. It was amazing: tons of breads, pastries, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, sausage, potatoes, bacon, eggs, chocolate milk, and who knows what else - it was an oasis after the Eeeky disaster yesterday.
The only other thing this morning was the fact that Lindsey killed her Chi. I'm not sure if the converter was on the wrong setting or if it just passed away quietly, but I am pretty sure she fried it. Anyhow, I took some pictures of the conference center so you all have some idea what the place looks like and what the poster set up is. There are a lot of posters missing from the displays because they were lost in travel, or put on the (optional) digital display without the actual required paper poster being set-out on display.
We ate dinner with Dan just a bit ago. We probably walked three miles following him trying to find a place that was open. He informed us that spare ribs are a big thing here, and we taught him two things believe it or not. First, he didn't know that mussels are a bigger deal than the spare ribs. And before I tell you the second thing we taught him, we will finish the dinner conversation....Dan got the spare ribs, and he let us each try one. They were amazing. Whatever they were rubbed in was wonderful. I also got one of the local favorites which they call Waterzooi Gent or "chicken casserole." It's really more of a chicken pot pie soup, minus any kind of crust. But if you ate around the celery, it was also amazing.
Okay, for those who are not familiar, teaching Dan something is quite an achievement. The second, and more important thing we taught him, is why the potties have two buttons (look above the potty):
The big button is for #2, and the little button is for #1. However, the little button doesn't seem to be a full flush because the public restrooms smell like urine and the bathrooms visually appear clean, so I am pretty sure it just sits in the toilet water at some constant concentration.
Moving on to more pleasant things...we have our tour day tomorrow. We are signed up for the brewery and the war site because the meat plant tour was full...we are going to try a finagle our way onto the meat plant tour. We will see how that goes, either way should be fun.
The only other thing to mention is that we are pretty sure we have gained a significant amount of weight. I'm not sure that 2 more days in Belgium will be offset by the fact that a man from the UK told me today that we will leave London hungry. They better fast us good in London, or you guys will be welcoming the two-ton-Tina-twins home next week. Bye for now!
