Before I go to bed.....

Okay, so I mentioned the warm milk thing......I want everyone to see my solution to the ridiculous mini-fridge door:

Hopefully this means cold milk. Cold milk to go with my interesting breakfast....if I eat a couple a day, I should make it to Thursday without having to spend another $4,000,000.00 USD on a bag of convenience store snacks.

To give you an idea, the picture below is 278,50 DKK (the comma is proper Danish, or Dansk - whatever). This based on the pathetic conversion rate is roughly $53.10 USD. This will by two bags of the snack I just showed you and 2 pints (1/2 liter) of milk. Or one 7-day train pass PLUS 2 double cheeseburgers (the little ones) from McDonald's. I just want everyone to know that I exchanged $140 USD at the airport yesterday, and it is ALL gone. One dinner, one lunch, one ticket to a theme park ($17 USD), and a bag of cinnamon turds from 7-eleven, and it is all gone. Back home, I use $140 to eat for two weeks....this money thing is very hard to adjust to.

Now, I will try my best to express the extremely close quarters of the bathroom. Please realize that the shower only has a half wall, which means that the water runs out of the shower into the rest of the bathroom, down a drain under the sink.

The small ledge between the shower and the bathroom is misleading, it doesn't work. Water goes everywhere.

Also, please notice that there is a very tiny space between the toilet and sink. I put the hairbrush on the floor as a scale. It's ridiculous, if you aren't careful, you will hurt yourself on either the sink or the toilet. And the only trash can is in the corner behind the toilet. And you have to step over the toilet to step on the trash can lever......awkward - Twister awkward.

Anyhow....In other news, I learned today that you have to pay to use the public restrooms. Therefore, people pee in the street. I haven't smelled it yet, but others have, ugh.

Now it is bedtime, about 11:15 pm. So I will save the other pictures of the town, the canal tour, the amusement park, and the story of Dr. Savell running - yes, running, for tomorrow!!

Day 2: More walking and people watching

The majority of the morning consisted of walking down the pedestrian street and looking in all of the shops. Apparently genie style pants are really popular here....basically they are baggy M.C. Hammer pants with the crotch down past the knees. There also seems to be a variety of these, from strapless one-piece things to full body suits (not attractive)...since I couldn't take a picture I Googled "genie pants" and got this, which is the most elegant version I've seen (still dumb nonetheless):

Apart from those hideous things - purple is very in, and lots of layers, fur, and TIGHTS! How could I forget the leggings - OMG. Leggings under shorts, leggings under dresses, just leggings. Leggings with zippers, leggings that look like a cat fought with them, leggings with stripes, geez.

And the Harris' current running joke - men's capris. They think Joe needs a pair! Let's see if Google has those.....

NOT MANLY...enough said.

I am not sure how I got off on such a tangent considering I was just going to post pretty pictures of statues and things. I guess I will get to that eventually, this is a great way to pass the time since the TV is almost all Danish Channels, and I have no interest in re-runs of Spin City.

OH, and P.S. - they are much more open about naked-ness here than people in the US...I will save that story for the amusement park post - if I ever get that far. Just think....It's 6 pm here right now, and what I have explained up until now, barely catches us up to lunch today.

Day 2: The start of the day....

I will start on Day 2 since Day 1 consisted of sleep and dinner. Fortunately, I have not suffered jet lag, and have discovered the wonders of Tylenol PM.

To start - I ate 3 tiny Danish pastries (like 1"x2") and warm milk :( because the decorative door attached to the mini fridge did not allow it to close all the way. Then at 9am (our time - which is 2 am US time) we began our adventure.

The first picture is one of the many buildings in and around City Centre as it is called. The second picture is a view of the "walking street" intended only for pedestrians and the police. So far, we have seen police in two forms: car (Mercedes) and mounted patrol, with the horse poo in the street to prove it. You can see a little glimpse of a 7 Eleven on the right edge. They have those on nearly every corner. A bottled Coke, smaller than our standard US 20oz is 14.95 DKK or about $3.00 US. And a six-pack of tiny Coke cans is 45.95 or about $9.00 US. The cheapest food I've had was a $7.00 pizza slice in New Jersey. Prices are unreal.

They also have McDonald's and Burger King. Prices are similar to the US maybe $1 more or so. We haven't been in one yet; however, they had a sign advertising Italian influenced menu items...interesting at best.

Candy at the 7-Eleven, everything looks fairly normal, a few different wrappers and some Danish candy. You would be surprised how Coke, and Nestle fair around here.

I have already taken 137 pictures of this dirty, gloomy place. The temperature is really variable, and the wind blows hard - sometimes. There is trash all over the place, and EVERYONE smokes; although, some individuals' smoke smells different than others. There are also a lot of street musicians, and beggars roaming around - and then one man passed out on a bench with his hair in his face and a liter beer bottle next to his head. Of course, I have no pictures of these lovely things. :)
